Operating Principle of a Single-Screw CompressorThe sophisticated operation of a single-screw compressor is driven by the harmonious interaction of a pair of intermeshing helical rotors, commonly referred to as the male and female rotors. These intricately designed rotors, each featuring several concave teeth, rotate in opposing directions, with an impressive precision gap of only 5 to 10 microns between them and their casing. The main rotor, or the male rotor, is typically powered by a robust engine or reliable electric motor, while the secondary rotor, the female one, gains its momentum from an oil film formed via oil injection or synchronized gears, ensuring an immaculate metal-free contact during the operation. As the rotors gracefully spin, the grooves collect gas upon passing the intake port. With continuous rotation, these grooves are flawlessly sealed by the casing wall, forming an efficient compression chamber. This chamber is infused with a lubricating oil, which serves multifunctional purposes of sealing, cooling, and lubricating. As the cycle progresses, the volume within the compression chamber diminishes, effectively compressing the gas into a refined oil-gas mixture. This mixture is then elegantly expelled through the exhaust port, completing the seamless cycle of intake-compression-exhaust.
