The operating principle of a single-screw compressoris a marvel of engineering achieved through a pair of intermeshing helical rotors, famously referred to as the male and female rotors. Each rotor is carefully designed with several concave teeth, strategically rotating in opposite directions. The precision-engineered gap between the rotors and between the casing and the rotors is a mere 5 to 10 microns, testament to its advanced design. The main rotor, or male rotor, is typically powered by an engine or electric motor, while the secondary rotor, or female rotor, is driven by an ingenious oil film created by oil injection or synchronized gears, ensuring zero metal-to-metal contact during operation. As the rotors turn, the rotor grooves eagerly fill with gas upon passing the intake port. Once filled, the rotors continue their rotation, with the rotor grooves being sealed off by the casing wall, forming a compression chamber. At this stage, lubricating oil is injected into the chamber, serving multiple roles-sealing, cooling, and lubricating. As the rotors further rotate, the compression chamber's volume diminishes, skillfully compressing the gas into a refined oil-gas mixture, which is then elegantly discharged through the exhaust port, completing the pristine cycle of intake, compression, and exhaust.
